A riot erupted in Sir George Williams University’s (now Concordia University) computer centre after talks to end the centre’s occupation broke down. Early in 1968, a lecturer had been accused of racism toward black West Indian students; and students were disillusioned by the administration’s response. Black and white students destroyed computer equipment, resulting in millions of dollars in damage and 97 arrests. It was the largest student riot in Canadian history.
