Elizabeth Russell posted an advertisement in the Upper Canadian press advertising two slaves, Peggy and Peggy’s son, Jupiter, for sale. For $150 and $200 respectively, a resident of Upper Canada could purchase Peggy and Jupiter, whose behaviour Russell had complained about in her personal correspondence. Slavery in Canada remains a stain on our collective history.
