Vancouver– March 2 - Local Second World War veterans and high school students gathered today at the Chinese Cultural Centre Museum and Archives in Vancouver to launch dynamic educational tools that honours the contribution of Chinese Canadians during the Second World War.
“We are proud to honour the service and sacrifice of Chinese Canadians during the Second World War,” said Project Manager, Jenna Misener. “This community is an essential part of the Canadian fabric and it is our responsibility to educate youth about their valuable contribution.”
The web-based resource will bring history to life for the ‘net’ generation, by allowing students to engage hundreds of eye-witness testimonials from
The Memory Project: Stories of the Second World War online archive. In partnership with the Chinese Canadian Military Museum Society, The Memory Project held a panel discussion moderated by Fairchild TV presenter and University of British Columbia lecturer, Emily Ng.
A program of the Historica-Dominion Institute, The Memory Project: Stories of the Second World War is creating an unprecedented record of Canada’s participation in the Second World War as seen through the eyes of thousands of men and women who were there by providing every living Second World War veteran with the opportunity to preserve their memories through recorded interviews and digitized memorabilia. Their stories will be available, in both official languages, at
www.thememoryproject.com.
The Memory Project: Stories of the Second World War is made possible by a contribution from the Government of Canada through the Celebrations and Commemorations Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage.
